Revised PR Guidelines Assessment (Public Pension & Livelihood Standards)
Japan's PR guideline changed on 1 October 2026. What changes for you depends on when you apply.

Applying on or after 1 April 2027: all the new rules apply, including the household income and pension checks below.

Applied on or after 1 April 2026 and still waiting for a decision on 1 October 2026: ISA now checks your household income, and whether your household could end up relying on public support, against the new rules.

Applying between 2 October 2026 and 31 March 2027: the guideline does not clearly say whether the new income check applies. It is safer to assume it does.

ISA has not published the income or pension amounts it uses. The amounts in this tool come from government statistics, mainly the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare's 2025 household survey. Treat them as estimates.
